As a big fan of prose and poetry, I’ve always been of the opinion that the present-day curriculum doesn’t integrate enough of them. Instead of seeing the literature component as yet another a hurdle on the question paper, the poems should be enjoyed fully.
To have a more focused reading in the classroom but with limited time (yes we don’t usually allocate a lot for the literature component, sadly), I use the P.OE.T.R.Y handout with my students before, while and after reading. You can assign the tasks to be done individually, in pairs or even as a roundtable activity.

Below are examples of handouts I used with my form 5 classes.
